Ezekiel Bread

Ok, I have decided to do a product review, which is an extension of my post about God's Food Laws. Reading through the Bible, eating right is a big deal to God. Not only did he give Food Laws, he also gave a recipe to make bread in Ezekiel 4:9. That verse reads in the New Living Translation:

"Now go and get some wheat, barley, beans, lentils, millet, and emmer wheat, and mix them together in a storage jar. Use them to make bread for yourself during the 390 days you will be lying on your side."

I'm not sure what it has to do with lying on your side for 390 days, but a company called, "Food for Life" makes Ezekiel Bread. I recently tired it for the first time. I've tried other so called, "healthy bread", and Ezekiel Bread is the best I've eaten. It has a mild nutty taste, and it isn't dry and doesn't fall apart like other, "healthy bread". However, it's not cheap, a loaf where I live costs $7. Also, since it doesn't have any preservatives, it needs to be kept in the fridge. Despite the cost, I recommend the bread.

I also found out, "Food for Life" makes wraps too, with the ingredients mentioned in Ezekiel 4:9. I like Mexican food, so I eat wraps a lot. The Ezekiel 4:9 wraps are very good too. They do however, fall apart easy, since there isn't any preservatives in them either, so have a napkin and a fork/spoon handy. Just like the bread, the wraps aren't cheap, six cost $5.49, and they need to be kept in the fridge too. I recommend the wraps too, they're worth it.

It sometimes costs extra to eat healthy, but think of it this way, your health is worth it.

God's Food Laws

With families getting together soon to celebrate Easter, which includes eating ham, it's time for me to get a little controversial. 14 months ago I decided to read the Bible, again, cover to cover. A few years ago I read the Bible cover to cover, and used one of those "read the Bible in a year" programs. It's good to be on a program, but it made for me rushing through it at times, in order to stay on track and get it done in a year. This time I decided to read the Bible at my own pace.

With a new found interest in nutrition, when I got to God's Food Laws in Leviticus, I took notice. Here's a great resource for which animals are considered clean and unclean to eat according to God:


Looking at the list, I'm sure people would agree with most of it, who would want to eat a cat or a horse? However there's a few animals many won't, like pork and shellfish. Bacon is everyone's favorite, who doesn't love the taste!? Also shrimp and lobster are very good. I decided to look into things further. What makes them unclean? I was grossed out watching that, and stopped buying pork at the grocery store, and ordering it while eating out, on the spot!

I found out shellfish are similar to pigs. They hang around the bottom of the sea and eat all the waste left behind by the other fish. They eat human waste, that we flush, as well. Disgusting! Shellfish, in fact, are the insects of the sea, so eating them, is like eating unclean bugs. I was grossed out again and stopped. Pigs and Shellfish are nature's garbage cans, they were put on the earth to keep it clean.

I've realized animals on the clean side, eat healthy, like grass, grains, plants, fruits, vegetables, etc.. Animals on the unclean side, will eat anything or hang around in unclean environments.

I've heard it from friends and family who are Christian, that because of the New Covenant, those Food Laws have been done away with. They point to the books of Matthew and Acts. Looking into that further as well, I disagree. In both books, if you keep reading, it's explained. In Matthew, Jesus was talking about the Jews hand washing tradition. In Acts Peter saw a vision from God about spreading his Laws to Gentiles. I personally don't see where the Food Laws were done away with.

As I slow the aging process down by eating right and exercising, it makes sense to me, when eating meat, to eat the animals that eat healthy. I now keep in mind, when I eat meat, I'm eating what those animals eat. Personally I don't want to eat animals that eat crap, literally!

Juicing

It's January 2nd, so before I start, Happy New Year! I hope 2018 will be a great year!

I spent the last few months filming some workouts for youtube, but for some reason I can't upload them. I have no idea what's going on, because it's the same camera and program I've used in the past. When it comes to technology, things are always changing, so who knows? Anyway, despite the technology issue, I'll continue blogging.

As I continue to watch and read fitness and nutrition information online, a few months ago I started eating more of a plant based diet, because of a documentary I watched on Netflix called, "In Defense of Food". It says to eat more plants and use meat and cheese for flavor. Also something else I'm doing, is juicing. You know what's funny, when I moved to where I currently live, about 13 years ago, my Mom gave me a juicer, but I never used it until last October.

I'm hooked on juicing! I'm usually at the grocery store a couple times a week buying fruits and vegetables. I found an article that explains 9 Benefits of Juicing that you can check out. One thing I've noticed juicing, is how dark my skin is, despite living in Canada and it's winter. I look like I just came back from a vacation in Florida.

If you've never juiced before, just a tip, to go easy on the fruit, because fruit has more sugar then vegetables. You'll want to use more vegetables, so fruit, like meat and cheese, in the documentary, "In Defense of Food", should be added for flavor.

Fresh Lemon In Water

It's funny over time how your taste buds can change. I've heard for a few years now how healthy fresh lemon in water is. In the past when I tried it, I didn't like the taste. Recently I tried it again, and really like it. I'm sure the change has to do with cutting out added sugar to my diet. As a kid, I really liked Lemon-aid, so probably when I first tried it, I was expecting it to taste more like Lemon-aid. Now, due to cutting out added sugar, I can't drink Lemon-aid, because it's too sweet.

Positive and Negative of a Rep

If you've been reading my blog, you can tell, I'm constantly educating myself more and more when it comes to fitness and nutrition. Recently I've been watching videos on youtube about the importance of focusing on both the positive and the negative when it come to doing a rep.

For example, take a bicep curl, the positive movement is bring the dumbbell, workout band, or whatever you're using, up to your shoulder. The negative movement is bring it back down. I think out of natural reaction, we focus more on the positive, then the negative. We bring the weight or band up slow, then bring it down fast to complete the movement. According to some fitness experts, the negative is more important, and should be done slow to really see results. It also it a way for us to control the weight the entire rep.

I've started focusing more on the negative during my workouts, and workouts I've been doing for years and can breeze through, are now exhausting! A few years ago I posted some of my own beginner workout videos on youtube. I've always wanted to post some more advanced workouts. With focusing on the negative now, I'm ready to film and post some advanced workouts on youtube, so stay tuned! When they're on youtube, I'll post the links here.

(Update September 7th) I'm still planning to post some advanced workouts, I've just been waiting for the fall weather gets here, so when I'm filming, the window air conditioner doesn't have to run. If you have a window air conditioner, you know how loud they are, and I didn't want to be talking over it. I live in Canada, so fall gets here faster than in America. Temperatures have cooled off a bit, and I took the air conditioners out this morning, so I can get started.

Green Tea

Staying hydrated is an important part of life. It's also important to building muscle. As mentioned, I've read about the 1 gallon water challenge. As much as I like drinking water, 1 gallon of the same liquid is too much for me. I drink a lot of Green Tea, I drink it hot and cold, as use it as a way to stay hydrated during the day.
